WPA recognizes ICEA as sole global authority in Chinese Pool

The World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) and International Chinese Eight-ball Association (ICEA) have announced their cooperation that sees ICEA becoming the sole authority to manage and promote the sport of Chinese Pool worldwide.
This milestone event marks ICEA’s entry into the Olympic organogram through the WPA system.
The President of ICEA, Mr Qiao Bing said “We will be working very closely with the WPA for inclusion of Chinese Pool into the World Games and Olympic Games’ ‘.
Since its establishment in 2012, the ICEA has made unremitting endeavor to globalize the Chinese Eight-ball pool as it grows from a street side game to having participants and fans from over 60 countries across the globe with the aim to standardise, normalise and professionalise the league system which will cover 180 countries on six continents, making it an inclusive indoor sport for men and women of all ages.
On his part the President of WPA, Mr Ian Anderson said “The WPA will support the ICEA in attaining its goals and ambitions and if the past 9 years are anything to go by, then there is no doubt that this will be achieved”.
Meanwhile, Joy Billiards Sports Promotion Company Ltd is leading the promotion of Chinese Eight- Ball Pool in Africa having introduced it to South Africa, Uganda and Kenya. It also signed a partnership agreement with FIJI Ventures Limited in October 2020 to promote the sport in Nigeria. The agreement provides that 5 Joy Chinese Eight- Ball Pool tournament qualifiers will be organized annually with the winners enjoying sponsorships to participate in the Joy Chinese Eight- Ball Pool Masters events in China.
FIJI Ventures will collaborate with the Snooker and Pool Players Alliance (SPPA) as its technical partner to see that the sport is entrenched in the cue sports community.
President of the Snooker and Pool Players Alliance Idada Joachim is optimistic that as soon as the Q3+ Joy Billiards equipment arrives they will hit the ground running.
“The current delay in commencing the Joy Chinese Pool Tournament is caused by the late arrival of the equipment which is delayed due to getting necessary foreign exchange through our bankers from the CBN. Utilizing the parallel market to source for such funds will make the equipment too expensive for its purpose. Unfortunately, Nigeria will be losing immensely from the opportunities created if we don’t link our events to the global Chinese Eight- ball Pool circuit and tours. We are making an effort to get the necessary foreign exchange for that purpose. You will recall that Nigeria was invited to participate in the postponed Chinese Eight-ball Pool World Cup which was to hold in South Africa in 2020” he said.
